Insurance & Payment
Clear payment information for families
KidWise Counseling is an out-of-network provider. Payment is due at the time of service, and some families choose to seek reimbursement through their insurance plan using a superbill. By remaining out-of-network, KidWise Counseling is able to provide thoughtful, individualized care without the limitations that insurance companies often place on treatment.

Individualized care
Treatment can be tailored to your child’s unique needs rather than insurance requirements.

Greater flexibility
Session length, frequency, and treatment approach can be guided by clinical need.

Specialized support
Families can access specialized care, including ERP and SPACE, without insurance-driven limitations.

More privacy
Insurance companies do not require access to detailed clinical records when services are not billed directly through them.

Continuity of care
Treatment is less likely to be disrupted by coverage decisions or plan restrictions.
Why out-of-network care?
Why out-of-network care?
KidWise Counseling has intentionally chosen not to contract directly with insurance companies in order to provide the highest quality of care without outside restrictions. Insurance companies often require specific diagnoses, limit the type or length of sessions, and influence treatment decisions in ways that may not align with what is clinically best for your child or family.
By remaining out of network, treatment can stay focused on evidence-based, individualized support and close collaboration with parents, without interference from third-party payers.
Out-of-network reimbursement & superbills
Although KidWise Counseling does not bill insurance directly, many families choose to seek out-of-network reimbursement through their insurance provider.
A superbill is a detailed receipt that includes the information insurance companies typically require for reimbursement. Upon request, KidWise Counseling can provide superbills for families to submit to their insurance company.
Important notes
Reimbursement amounts vary by plan
Coverage decisions are made by your insurance company, not the provider
Payment is due at the time of service
Families are encouraged to contact their insurance provider directly to ask about out-of-network mental health benefits before beginning services.
Common CPT codes
- 90791 – Intake Appointment / Psychiatric Diagnostic Evaluation

Using FSA & HSA Accounts
If you have a Health Savings Account (HSA) or Flexible Spending Account (FSA), therapy services often qualify as an eligible medical expense. Families can often:
Use HSA or FSA cards to pay for sessions
Submit receipts for reimbursement
Frequently asked questions
KidWise Counseling specializes in supporting children, teens, and families navigating anxiety, OCD, body-focused repetitive behaviors, fear-based ARFID, perfectionism, phobias, and related challenges. The consultation process is a good place to talk through your concerns and determine whether the practice feels like the right fit.
The process typically begins with a consultation, followed by an initial evaluation to better understand your child’s needs, concerns, and goals. From there, support is tailored based on the child, the family, and the type of care that makes the most sense.
Not always. Some services are designed specifically for parents, including SPACE treatment and parent consultations. In those cases, the child does not attend sessions directly.
Yes. KidWise Counseling is currently a telehealth-only practice. Virtual sessions are designed to be flexible, engaging, and accessible for families, and are offered through a secure online platform.
KidWise Counseling works with children, teens, and the parents supporting them. The best fit can depend on your child’s age, needs, and the type of support you are looking for.
The initial diagnostic evaluation is a 60-minute session. It is used to gather important background information, better understand current concerns, and identify the most appropriate next steps.
Most families complete SPACE in approximately 8 to 12 sessions, beginning with an intake session to review the child’s needs and treatment goals. The tools parents learn during that time are designed to be practical and long-lasting.
Yes. Parent-focused support may still be helpful even if a child is hesitant to participate directly or if parents want guidance on how to better support what is happening at home.
That’s completely okay. If you are unsure where to begin or want to talk through your child’s needs first, reaching out for a consultation is a good next step.
We highly encourage all parents of minors to engage in 4–6 parent sessions with one of our therapists. Anxiety and OCD problems impact the entire family and the role that a parent plays in helping their child is critical to effective outcomes. Often times, the ways that feel natural to respond to anxiety (reassurance, helping, etc.) can increase anxiety over time. Parents need to learn strategies to use that will help reduce anxiety over time, not just provide the quick fixes that grow anxiety.
